Claudia Coen, Community IPM Educator,
New York State IPM Program
A survey was conducted to evaluate the quantity and quality of science instruction in NYS Public Schools. Questions were put to teachers under the following headings. Time. Resources, Funds Attitude, Confidence and Training. The data were used to determine the most effective way to produce IPM curriculum for K-12 that teachers responsible for science education would be willing to adopt and actively utilize in the classroom. Based on this survey an IPM curriculum is being developed for NYS Public Schools that meets the teachers needs and actively teaches IPM as a real-world, interactive science. Our curricula are grade specific, interdisciplinary, meet NYS Standards and grade maps. In addition they are based on sound education theory incorporating activity, task and learning styles rotation grids. Results of the teacher survey will be discussed. The student tested/teacher approved IPM Curriculum for Kindergarten with its supporting resource materials will be demonstrated.
