New York Farm Viability Institute

Applied Research Partnership Grants 2006

Deadline: October 2, 2006
Duration: 3 to 24 months
Amounts: up to $250,000 per grant

WHAT IS NYFVIS APPLIED RESEARCH PARTNERSHIP GRANT PROGRAM? The New York Farm Viability Institute, Inc. (NYFVI) is seeking proposals for projects of up to a two year duration that will work directly with agricultural producers (field or horticultural crops, livestock, dairy, greenhouse, nursery, turf grass and other specialized agricultural businesses including but not limited to equine and aquaculture enterprises) to make their businesses more successful while providing models that other producers of these crops and products can implement to strengthen the performance of their sector of New Yorks agricultural economy

TYPES OF WORK THAT MAY BE FUNDED The Institute will consider projects that focus on farm-level applied research and demonstration of recently completed more basic research and development efforts. Projects should also include components (e.g. education, outreach, information transfer, technical assistance) that will foster the adoption and implementation of new technologies, practices, production systems or management strategies that are being studied. Where new investments or substantial changes in management systems are required to implement proposed innovations, business planning support should be an important project component.

WHO MAY APPLY? Proposals will be accepted from researchers and educators at academic institutions, extension staff and others involved in agricultural research and development, technology adoption and business assistance in the agricultural sector.

THE FUNDING SOURCE The Applied Research Partnership program is supported by funds received through the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets from a specific appropriation to the New York Farm Viability Institute, Inc. from the State of New York.

THIS IS A PARTNERSHIP GRANT PROGRAM Research under this program must be carried out in partnership with identified producers or groups of producers who are materially involved in the project, making cash or in-kind contributions to the work, and agreeing to share information related to project impacts and results. Partnerships among researchers, private sector agricultural professionals, USDA and NYS agency staff, CCE educators, SUNY faculty, and/or others are encouraged. Applications must provide detail on producer involvement in developing the proposal, and any commitments already received from producers to participate in the research project. If a grant is awarded, the project leader will be required to submit signed Producer Agreements with participating producers shortly after project initiation.
