Cornell Cooperative Extension

2006-2007 Innovative Small Farm Education Grants Program

Focus: small farms; education; mentoring; extension
Deadline: October 1, 2006
Amounts: up to $7000 per project; total of $23,000

Cornell Cooperative Extension educators and CCE regional specialists are invited to submit proposals for innovative educational efforts that specifically target local small farm businesses and the families who live and work on these farms. Up to $7,000 is available per project, with a total of $23,000 available statewide. Although funding is available only to CCE educators, small-scale farmers or local organizations working with small farms with good educational ideas are encouraged to work with their local extension educator to submit a proposal.

Cornell's Small Farms Grants Program was initiated in 2000 to help Cornell Cooperative Extension educators better serve New York's smaller farms. The grants program is overseen by Cornell's Small Farms Task Group, which is comprised of farmers, non-governmental organizations, extension educators, and faculty. A committee of farmers reviews all proposals and makes final recommendations for funding.

This year, we are especially interested in proposals focused on two themes: 1) Developing farmer-to-farmer discussion groups or mentoring programs. 2) Producing fact sheets or educational materials for the small farm audience.

Contact Anu Rangarajan ar47@cornell.edu or Joanna Green jg16@cornell.edu if you have any questions about this opportunity. This RFP will also be available soon on the Small Farms web site .
