The Pesticide Sales and Use Reporting Database Group (PSUR) which works under the auspices of the Pesticide Management Education Program (PSUR) is looking for a new team member. This team is in the process of developing information systems for New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) which process pesticide business, applicator, product, course, exam, permit, and enforcement data. This position will be responsible for developing new systems to process pesticide regulatory data related to the systems already under development and supervise future enhancements. Develop and maintain a system to make pesticide product labels available to field inspectors. Design, develop, implement, maintain and enhance information systems for the NYSDEC, Pesticide Reporting Section. Develop database-oriented Internet applications and maintain existing client-server applications. Responsible for the management of the support systems through-out the entire application life-cycle which requires a complete software development skill set. This position requires independent decision making that influences the program decisions and team project goals. Documentation skills are particularly important. Self-motivation is vital to success in this position. Candidates must be able to take primary responsibility for the development of new systems as well as participate on development teams. The successful candidate must be able to independently develop code based on the business analysis provided by other team members. This is a one year term appointment with possible extension.. Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; more than 1 year and less than 2 years experience or equivalent. Computer Science or equivalent discipline. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered upon review. Strong database programming skills using database software such as SQL Server, FoxPro, and FileMaker are required. Strong data analysis and business process analysis and documentation skills are required. Travel is required (NYS drivers license required). Must be able to work independently and demonstrate sound judgment, creativity, management, and problem-solving skills while having the ability to work well within a team-work environment. Adapts to changing priorities, situations and demands. Demonstrates the ability to express thoughts clearly, both orally and in writing. Must have experience with internet and client/server architectures. Our preference is someone with more than three years on-the-job experience. Experience with Windows-based and Macintosh-based platforms. Experience with FileMaker, .NET framework and C# is highly preferred. Experience with Java or Visual Basic a plus.
