The Department of Plant Pathology is seeking 2 highly motivated individual to organize and perform ELISA based serological testing of stone fruit samples submitted to the Plant Disease Diagnostic Clinic for identification of a possible Plum Pox Virus infection. Organization and independent decision making skills are required ensure proper processing of this extremely large sampling survey. The openings are immediate with the position terming between September 30 and October 31, 2006.

The employee needs to exhibit leadership abilities and work as a team member. Problem solving skills will be required. The employee will work independently and, after initial training, requires little supervision. Decisions made by the employee will significantly impact the successfulness of the project. The employee must have the ability to recognize common plant and plant pathogen names and determine proper scientific names. Must be able to organize work, collect and analyze data, make calculations, possess computer skills, use common software program, keep records, and make independent decisions. The positions require related, upper level coursework, significant work experience, knowledge of equipment used in a laboratory environment, and the ability to coordinate a project involving complex analysis of data.

Associated duties include performing tasks such as media preparation of a number of recipes that are needed for diagnostic purposes, learning proper sterile technique to obtain pure cultures of pathogenic organisms, and routine cleaning and washing of glassware.

Pay Rate: $10.80 per hour. There are 2 full time positions available.
