Position: Post Doctoral Associate (one year with potential extension to two years) Salary Range: $35,000 to $44,000
Qualifications: Ph.D. in entomology with an emphasis in biological control
Availability: April 1, 2007 or as soon as a candidate can be identified
Job Description:
Methods development and field data collection focused on invasive pests and their natural enemies for use in Florida and possibly offshore. A committee comprised of Federal and State regulators and researchers will provide oversight for project direction.
Responsibilities will include:
* Conduct applied research in support of implementation of biological control of targeted invasive pests.
* Publish in refereed/non-refereed journals and provide extension information and materials
* Evaluate field release and establishment of natural enemies and determine success of biological control projects
* Develop rearing techniques for natural enemies
* Cooperatively evaluate new invasive pests in Florida as potential targets for biological control and provide assistance in preparing environmental assessments for releasing natural enemies
* Act as a liaison to cooperating agencies through regular conference calls and summary reports
* Provide supervision for 1-2 lab/field assistants
Benefits: The University of Florida offers optional life and medical insurance for post-doctoral positions. Sick leave is accrued at the rate of 4 hours per pay period (2 weeks).
