The Maine Landscape and Nursery Association is excited to announce their keynote speaker for the MeLNA Annual Meeting and Trade Show scheduled for January 16th at the Augusta Civic Center.
Mr. Kevin O'Connor, charismatic host of the Emmy Award winning series This Old House, AmericaĆs most watched home improvement television show, will make a rare public appearance in Maine. As an alternative subject speaker, Kevin will share an inside, behind the scenes look at how the popular show is produced, including advance shots of their current project not yet seen on TV. Stories about how the landscape designs are selected and carried out may surprise you.
Other speakers for the daylong conference include Jacquelyn Nooney of The Flower Company in Eliot, ME. Jackie has been designing, building and maintaining gardens and landscapes for both residential and commercial clients throughout New England since 1984. She studied at Radcliff Seminars Program in Landscape Design. In 1995, she founded the Flower Company, a wholesale greenhouse operation that specializes in growing uncommon annuals, tender perennials, and tropical plants that succeed in New England Gardens. The title of her talk is Designing with Uncommon Seasonal Plants.
Jon Turmel will put a humorous slant on Lyme disease and the West Nile virus. Not sure how he can do that? Come and see. Jon is a native of Nashua, NH. He received his M. S. In entomology from the University of New Hampshire in 1976. He worked as an extension specialist-entomologist for two years with the NH Extension Service, specializing in pesticide education and IPM in vegetables, fruit and forage crops. In 1977, he relocated to Barre, Vermont and has served as state entomologist since then and he is an instructor at the University of Vermont, teaching Entomology and Insect Pest Management.
Aquascapes will round out the day with a presentation on water garden installation by Fred Pape of Aquascapes Designs. Expect your registration forms to arrive mid-December. Don't let them get lost in the pile!
