Northeastern IPM Center
College of Human Ecology Extension Evaluation Presentation Archived

The College of Human Ecology hosts two "Extension Gatherings" or informal seminars per semester to promote community among those interested in extension and other outreach. On December 5, 2006 Bill Trochim, Professor, Policy Analysis and Management, and Mike Duttweiler, Assistant Director, Extension Administration talked about evaluation activities in extension. The presentation from this event is posted at: http://staff.cce.cornell.edu/administration/program/evaluation/CHE_Outreach.htm

Bill and Mike described their session as follows: Evaluation is a central part of extension work. It provides a structure for feedback within the organization; an impetus for looking at the connection between our programs and their results; and a basis for continuous learning from our work.

This presentation provides a brief overview of the logic of evaluation, addressing four topics:

--evaluation concepts and roles;

--articulation of an evaluation protocol, a series of specific steps to articulate evaluation needs and barriers and develop a system for evaluating;

--the importance of modeling the logic behind programs; and

--the essentials of an evaluation plan.
