CALIFORNIA COMMITS TO ELIMINATING MAJOR PESTICIDE INCIDENTS --- DPR plans to strengthen enforcement so there will be a high price to pay for violating its rules or causing harm to people. The department also plans, among other goals, to encourage movement towards lower-risk products and activities.

CPDA SHARES ITS WATCH LIST FOR 2007 --- CPDA will be monitoring Congress for possible legislative action on endangered species, human testing, registration fees and security tax credits in 2007, and also sees implementation of the new site-security law for chemical companies as posing new challenges. Regulatory issues include warranty statements, product label comparisons, spray drift reduction technology, compensation for inert and endocrine disruptor data, electronic labeling and GHS, while data citation for generic registrations in Canada also promises to heat up.

Meanwhile, a letter from 56 environmental, labor, legal aid, medical, municipality, and religious leaders demands numerous changes to EPA's worker protection program.

AN INSIDER LOOK AT ORGANIC ADVOCACY IN IDAHO --- Northwest Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides has been educating conventional growers in spud country about organic potato systems and green manure, with growing success.

CROPLIFE AMERICA REVEALS ITS TOP CONGRESSIONAL AND LEGAL PRIORITIES --- CropLife discusses its strategies on domestic priorities such as the Endangered Species Act, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permits, and pesticide fees. Internationally, revising European pesticide regulations and trade irritants with Canada will be important issues.
