Aldicarb Risk Assessment Available for Public Comment

As part of the continuing effort to reassess and reregister existing pesticides, EPA has issued for public comment the preliminary human health risk assessment for the carbamate pesticide aldicarb. The Agency is seeking public comment and any additional information that will allow the Agency to better understand the potential risks and benefits associated with aldicarb. The Agency previously issued the ecological risk assessment for public comment. This assessment and the response to comments are available in the docket for public viewing.

The public is encouraged to suggest risk management ideas or proposals to address the potential human health and ecological risks that have been identified.

The docket for aldicarb also includes preliminary analyses on alternatives to aldicarb for uses associated with the highest potential risks. EPA is seeking input from stakeholders on the benefits of aldicarb, such as critical uses, potential impacts on growers from loss of use of aldicarb, and risk management suggestions Aldicarb is registered for use on a variety of agricultural crops including cotton, dry beans, pecans, potatoes, sugar beets, and other agricultural and ornamental plants.
