School IPM Best Practices

Maine

The Maine School IPM regulations were adopted by the Maine Board of Pesticides Control in 2003 and amended in 2005, 2007, and 2013. The regulation has several general components, which include but is not limited to:

  1. Pesticide use restrictions/limitations for indoors and outdoors
  2. A “right to know component” requiring notification and posting prior to the application of pesticides outdoors
  3. Record keeping component requiring retention of pest monitoring and management records
  4. Requirements that all private and public schools serving any grades K–12 adopt an official IPM policy, implement an IPM program and appoint a staff member to coordinate all IPM activities
  5. Mandatory training for the school IPM Coordinator
