Title Eastern Subterranean Termite (Isoptera: Reticulitermes f lavipes (Kollar)) Entering Into Buildings and Effects on Thermal Properties of Building Materials
Author CYNTHIA LINTON TUCKER
Date 2008
Description mite damage has other effects that have not been considered. One of these is the change in the thermal properties of a structure. If the walls of a building are riddled with termite galleries, it stands to reason that heat may travel more easily through damaged walls. Thus, a structure damaged in this way will lose heat more rapidly in a cold environment, or gain heat more rapidly in a hot environment. More energy is required for the heating and air conditioning systems to compensate for the loss of insulating properties. The price of this energy is an added cost of termite damage.
