Integrated pest management and weed Management in the United States and Canada
Publish Date: 2014-10-27
Author/Source: Micheal DK Owen, Hugh J Beckie, Julia Y Leeson, Jason K Norsworthy and Larry E Steckel
Description: adoption of diverse weed management tactics is limited. Modifying herbicide use will not solve herbicide resistance in weeds, and the relief provided by different herbicide use practices is generally short-lived at best. More diversity of tactics for weed management must be incorporated in crop systems.

Engineering a plant community to deliver multiple ecosystem services
Publish Date: 2014-10-14
Author/Source: Jonathan Storkey, Thomas Döring, John Baddeley, Rosemary Collins, Stephen Roderick, Hannah Jones, and Christine Watson
Description: In an agricultural context, an emphasis on food production has often led to a loss of biodiversity to the detriment of other ecosystem services such as the maintenance of soil health and pest regulation. In scenarios where multiple species can be grown together, it may be possible to better balance environmental and agronomic services through the targeted selection of companion species.

An acute exposure to glyphosate-based herbicide alters aromatase levels in testis and sperm nuclear quality
Publish Date: 2014-07
Author/Source: Estelle Cassault-Meyera, Steeve Gressa, Gilles-Éric Séralinia, Isabelle Galeraud-Denisa
Description: We investigated the effects of a glyphosate-based herbicide after an 8-day exposure of adult rats. We have shown a significant and differential expression of aromatase in testis. We have observed a diminution of mRNA expression of nuclear markers in spermatozoa. These results suggest changes in androgen/estrogen balance and in sperm nuclear quality. The repetition of exposures of this herbicide could alter the mammalian reproduction.
